The Nicaraguan Green & Black is a locality form of Dendrobates auratus native to the tropical forests of Nicaragua. In the wild, these frogs inhabit warm, humid rainforest environments where they are commonly found among leaf litter, fallen logs, and dense vegetation on the forest floor. They thrive in areas with abundant cover and consistent moisture.

Description

This locality is known for its striking emerald to metallic green patterning set against a deep black background. The intricate marbling and vibrant coloration make each frog unique, creating a stunning display in planted vivariums. Their bold colors and active daytime behavior have made them one of the most popular dart frog species in the hobby.

Social Behavior

Can be kept as pairs or small groups in appropriately sized enclosures. Dendrobates auratus are generally tolerant of group housing when provided with adequate space, visual barriers, and multiple hiding areas.

Minimum Enclosure Size

A minimum of 18” x 18” x 18” is recommended for a pair. For groups, a larger enclosure is preferred to provide additional space and reduce territorial interactions.
