Dendrobates leucomelas “Fine Spot”

Natural History

The Fine Spot is a morph of Dendrobates leucomelas native to the tropical rainforests of northern South America, primarily Venezuela, Guyana, and parts of Brazil. In the wild, these frogs inhabit humid lowland forests where they are commonly found among dense leaf litter, fallen logs, and moist vegetation on the forest floor.

Description

This morph is known for its bright yellow and black banding with reduced, finer black spotting compared to typical banded forms. The result is a cleaner, more uniform yellow appearance that still retains the bold contrast characteristic of the species. Individuals may vary slightly in pattern as they mature.

Social Behavior

Best kept as pairs or small groups in appropriately sized enclosures. Dendrobates leucomelas are generally hardy and adaptable, but males can become territorial in smaller setups, so adequate space and visual barriers are recommended for group housing.

Minimum Enclosure Size

A minimum of 18” x 18” x 18” is recommended for a pair, with larger enclosures preferred for groups.
