Dendrobates tinctorius “True Sipaliwini”

Natural History

The True Sipaliwini is a locality form of Dendrobates tinctorius originating from the Sipaliwini region of southern Suriname. In the wild, these frogs inhabit warm, humid rainforest environments where they are commonly found among leaf litter, fallen logs, and dense understory vegetation on the forest floor. Their habitat provides abundant cover, stable temperatures, and high humidity throughout the year.

Description

True Sipaliwini tinctorius are known for their striking yellow to golden dorsal coloration on the top of their eyes and tip of their nose contrasted by dark black patterning and blue reticulated limbs. The vibrant coloration and bold markings make this locality a standout among tinctorius morphs. Individual frogs may display slight variation in pattern and color intensity, adding to their unique appeal.

Social Behavior

Best kept as pairs. Like most tinctorius, they can display territorial behavior, particularly between females, so adequate space, visual barriers, and multiple hiding areas are important for long-term success.

Minimum Enclosure Size

A minimum of 18” x 18” x 18” is recommended for a pair.
