Oophaga pumilio “Cayo de Agua”

Natural History

The Cayo de Agua locality is a color morph of Oophaga pumilio native to the Bocas del Toro region of Panama. In the wild, these frogs inhabit humid tropical rainforest environments on small Caribbean islands, where they occupy leaf litter, low vegetation, and shaded forest floor areas with consistently high moisture and stable temperatures.

Description

This locality is known for its striking metallic green or olive-green back and a bright, solid yellow belly along with blue-green limbs.

Social Behavior

Best kept as established pairs. Oophaga pumilio are highly territorial and should not be group housed, as aggression is common outside of breeding pairs.

Minimum Enclosure Size

A minimum of 18” x 18” x 18” is recommended for a pair.
