Oophaga pumilio “Rio Colubre”

Natural History

The Rio Colubre locality is a color morph of Oophaga pumilio native to the Bocas del Toro region of Panama. In the wild, these frogs inhabit humid tropical lowland rainforests where they live on the forest floor among dense leaf litter, fallen logs, and low-growing vegetation in consistently warm, moisture-rich environments.

Description

This locality is known for its light to dark blue body coloration, typically paired with contrasting black spots scattered across their bodies.

Social Behavior

Best kept as established pairs. Oophaga pumilio are highly territorial and should not be group housed, as aggression is common outside of breeding pairs.

Minimum Enclosure Size

A minimum of 18” x 18” x 18” is recommended for a pair.
