Ranitomeya sirensis “Orange”

Natural History

The Orange form of Ranitomeya sirensis is native to the tropical rainforests of Peru and surrounding regions of the western Amazon Basin. In the wild, these frogs inhabit warm, humid forest environments where they utilize bromeliads, tree holes, and other water-holding microhabitats for breeding and tadpole development. Their semi-arboreal lifestyle allows them to make use of both the forest floor and elevated vegetation.

Description

This locality is known for its vibrant orange to reddish-orange coloration contrasted by bold black patterning and blue to turquoise markings on the legs. Their striking colors, intricate patterns, and active daytime behavior make them a highly desirable species for naturalistic display vivariums.

Social Behavior

Can be kept as pairs or in small groups when provided with adequate space, visual barriers, and multiple retreat areas. They are generally compatible in well-designed enclosures, though minor territorial behavior may occasionally occur during breeding periods.

Minimum Enclosure Size

A minimum of 18” x 18” x 18” is recommended for a pair and/or small groups. For larger groups a bigger enclosure is preferred to provide additional space, visual barriers, and breeding opportunities.
