Ranitomeya summersi “White Banded”

Natural History

The White Banded form of Ranitomeya summersi is native to the tropical rainforests of Peru. In the wild, these frogs inhabit warm, humid forest environments where they utilize bromeliads, tree holes, and other elevated microhabitats for shelter and reproduction. Like other members of the genus, they are semi-arboreal and benefit from densely planted environments with ample vertical structure.

Description

This striking locality is characterized by bright white to cream-colored bands contrasted against a dark black body. Their bold patterning and active nature make them a highly attractive species for naturalistic display vivariums.

Social Behavior

Can be kept as pairs or in small groups when provided with adequate space, visual barriers, and multiple retreat areas. While generally compatible in well-designed enclosures, occasional territorial disputes may occur, especially during breeding activity.

Minimum Enclosure Size

A minimum of 18” x 18” x 18” is recommended for a pair and/or small groups. For larger groups a bigger enclosure is preferred to provide additional space, visual barriers, and breeding opportunities.
